Deer Hunting on New Year's Day in southeast Mississippi!

My two youngest sons and I went deer hunting on New Year's Day.  The 13 year-old killed his second doe of the season.  Although it was only about 23 degrees when we began the skinning process, we went ahead and got it done. 

We used a rope and our t-hanger to hoist the deer up off the back of the trailer we brought the deer in from the woods on.  We looped oil-field rope around the 6-inch iron pipe support beam of our basketball goal and pulled 'er on up.  The actual skinning probably took about an hour.  (I had to go inside a time or two to warm my hands in front of our wood-burning heater!)


Now it's time to go out and try to get some more venison!  Nothing like deer hunting in a shooting house on a  cold, clear, January, Mississippi day!

Rednecks Revolt

I just learned of an organization known as redneckrevolt.  They are not true rednecks.  A true, virtuous redneck does not whine about how much money somebody else makes.  He is  not 'anti-capitalism' as this group who calls themselves rednecks are.  They must be Communists, though they won't come right out and say it.

Their frustrations are misdirected.  They should be outraged at a federal government which is $20 trillion in the red.

Go to work, and stop whining.

I recently read that the U.S. government set a new one-month record for spending, $428, 894,000,000 to be relatively exact.  (After all, what's a few hundred thousand among friends, right?)   I had a very faint hope that things might turn out differently this time around, but deep down, I knew they wouldn't.  Even though the Republicans now have control of the House, Senate, and the White House, they are still spending money as if their lives depended on it, money stolen from taxpayers, or borrowed from foreign entities.

The federal debt is so close to $20 trillion , one might as well call it that - $20 trillion.  I got out my trusty little calculator last week to do a little figuring.  What if the geniuses in DC decided they were going to dedicate one billion dollars a day to pay off the $20 trillion?  Now, I know, I'm just referring to principal here.  Any way, my calculator didn't provide enough digits to do the computation, so I had to resort to the old fashioned way - pencil and paper.  If my math skills serve me correctly, spending one billion dollars a day to pay down the $20 trillion would take roughly 55 years.  Take a look at the U.S. debt clock in real time.  Notice that it increases in $10,000 increments about every 1.3 seconds.

So, let me get this straight.  We (those of us who actually work for a living) pay members of the federal legislative branch about $174,000 a year  to do this:  spend $428.9 billion in ONE MONTH.

What I would like to do is to recruit somebody, anybody to go to Washington and take a chainsaw to the federal budget.  But he must first learn how to say one tiny word:  No!  'No!' to any more invading,, bombing and occupying nations 7,000 miles from the good ole USA.  'No!' to any more money for Planned Parenthood, that most notorious gang of baby butchers.  'No' to paying any more corporate farmers NOT to plant wheat, or NOT to plant corn, or NOT to plant cotton, or NOT to milk cows!  'No!' to congressional pensions of any size!  I'm not looking for a 'yes' man.  I'm looking for a 'No!' man!
